Casino Money Management – stick to your plans

Before you begin to play at a live or online casino it is very important that you make detailed plans concerning how you will manage your bankroll, which is the amount of money that you have set aside for gambling.

A typical approach to this is to decide on how you will bet should you lose and how to bet when you win. Some people prefer to flat bet, in other words to always bet the same amount of money, whilst others prefer betting systems that can be quite elaborate and respond to the outcome of previous bets and the amount of money remaining in the bankroll.

Mathematically, flat betting is the better strategy, though it can become a little boring. Although there are inherent dangers in betting systems that match future bets to the outcomes of previous bets (they are called progressive systems) they can be useful as long as you understand them and have a clear vision of your targets and your goals. The rule should be to never bet more than your initial bankroll and to never chase your losses.

Still, even if you do adopt a progressive betting system, it is at least better to have some sort of plan than no plan at all.

Plans are easy to stick to when you are winning, but a lot harder to do so when you are losing. The problem can be that when people lose a number of bets, rather than sticking to their original plan, they panic and abandon the plan and start betting randomly.

For instance their plan might be to bet the same amount following a win, and to bet a smaller amount following a loss, but what they actually do is to increase their bet when they lose. Once they have stepped out of their plan they find it difficult to get back on track.

When you bet you should keep a cool head and stick to your plans; bet with your head rather than with your heart.
